Gianmatteo Raineri is the winemaker and cellarmaster at the famed Piedmont estate Domenico Clerico. He has also worked in his family owned vineyards for many years. The family vineyards are located in several great sites in the Piedmont, and they sold their grapes for many years to other wineries.
With Gianmatteo's experience at Clerico, they decided in 2006 to begin producing wine under their own label, Fratelli Raineri. When you combine their excellent fruit sources with the winemaking of Clerico, you have a recipe for a rising star producer in the Piedmont.
This Barbera has ripe dark cherry and floral notes. The palate has concentrated dark fruit, and is freshened by brisk acidity. This is a gracefully balanced Barbera, with a long finish that echoes the black fruit core of the midpalate.
