Aged for 14 months in French oak (30% new), the wine offers aromas of cherry, spice and dark red fruit flavors. Firm tannins are nicely framed by bright and balanced acidity.
Translated from Spanish, Decero means “from scratch, an apt description for the level of attention paid to viticulture and vinification at Finca Decero. Owner Thomas Schmidheiny has transformed 271 acres of barren landscape in the foothills of the Andes into a beautiful, high-density, thriving vineyard. Remolinos Vineyard was planted on silty, loamy clay soils and named after the tiny whirlwinds that thread through the vineyard, which keeps the grapes dry. Each stage of the winemaking process is managed “amano, or by hand the grapes are hand-picked, sorted twice at the winery and processed via gravity.
