Wine maker notes
Year after year, our Sonoma Valley Zinfandel continues to be one of our most popular wines. Unlike many of its counterparts in Sonoma & Napa, our Valley Zinfandel is always approachable, and never “hot” due to too much alcohol. Our 2007 is no exception, and we are extremely happy with how rich this vintage is. The grapes that went into this wine all come from vineyards in the Glen Ellen area, The “Heart of Sonoma Valley”. Our '07 has classic Zinfandel character, with briar, blackberry, raspberry/blueberry and black pepper. Similar to the ’05 is the charming “bakeshop” aspect - reminiscent of a fresh baked blackberry pie with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg adding to the berry fruit. Peter & Toby also picked up a wonderful blood orange note, while Dave loves the huckleberry jam quality. The tannins are supple and velvety, and the ample acid gives the wine a mouthwatering juiciness. It is very fruity, dry, balanced, and isn’t buried under tons of new oak and residual sugar as are way too many Zins these days.
