Ultimate Beverage Challenge 88 points - Nearly opaque purple/blood red color. Aromatic notes of lead pencil, iron pan, nickel mingle with muted spice. Toasted, oaky tastes of tart berry fruits, cherry, black pepper abound in this straightforward flavor profile which lasts medium long in the mineral-like aftertaste. Great Value  (Jun 2014)

Wine Advocate 90 points - The 2011 Vina Zaco changed labels and profile to a more modern style a few years ago and displays a darker shade of cherry color, ripe notes of red and black berries, flowers and a meaty palate where the wood is perfectly integrated with the fruit, which finally feels more classical than what the label makes you think. It is very good value. Drink 2014-2017. (Dec 2013)

Wine maker notes
Vina Zaco is the rebellious new Rioja from Bodegas Bilbainas -a Rioja with a contemporary twist. Zaco takes its name from one of the oldest vineyards in Bodegas Bilbainas in the Rioja Alta. But that’s where Zaco’s links with the past begin and end. With its abundance of fresh red berries, notes of liquorice and faint undertones of spice, Zaco is the ultimate modern expression of Rioja.
