Penfoldsresults 1-10 of 10
Australia’s winemaking history of less than two hundred years is brief by European measures though, like Europe, punctuated by periods of extreme success and difficult times. From the earliest winemaking days Penfolds has figured prominently and few would argue the importance of Penfolds’ influence on Australia’s winemaking psyche. Without the influence of Penfolds the modern Australian wine industry would look very different indeed. Sitting comfortably outside of fad and fashion, Penfolds has taken Australian wine to the world on a grand stage and forged a reputation for quality that is without peer. Penfolds’ reputation for making wines of provenance and cellaring potential might suggest a mantle of tradition and formality is the preferred attire of a company with so much history to defend. But to label Penfolds as simply an established and conventional winemaker, would be to confuse tradition with consideration and to overlook the innovative spirit that has driven Penfolds since its foundation, and continues to find expression in modern times. If there is anything traditional about Penfolds, it is the practice of constantly reviewing the wines it already does well, and continuously evolving and refining styles as vineyards mature and access to ever older and more varied vineyard sites improves.

Penfold St Henri Shiraz  750ML
While Grange is now seen as the quintessential Australian wine, John Davoren’s work with St. Henri is of equal importance. Originally the wines were called ’Penfolds St. Henri Claret’, but since 1991, with the ... click for more details

Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz  750ML
Created by the legendary Max Schubert - creator of Penfolds Grange - Bin 389 is often referred to as ’Poor Man’s Grange’ or ’Baby Grange’, in part because components of the wine are matured in the same barrels that held the previous vintage of Grange. First made in 1960, this was the wine that helped to build Penfolds’ solid reputation with red wine drinkers. ... click for more details

Penfolds Bin 8 Cabernet Shiraz Blend  750ML
Penfolds Bin wines were originally numbered to represent their initial post-bottling location; however recent additions have been numbered to suggest associations. Bin 8 for instance, is matured in oak previously used for other Bin wines containing the same number; Bin 389, Bin 128 and Bin 28. The figure eight is also a geometric shape of equal parts, perhaps symbolically mirroring the equity ... click for more details

Penfolds Grandfather Port  750ML

Each year winemakers draw one-twelfth of each barrel from the lowest level of the Solera. The barrel is then topped up from the barrel sitting above it and the  click for more details

Penfolds Shiraz Kalimna Bin 28  750ML
The earliest releases of Bin 28 were single-vineyard wines, produced from grapes grown on the famous Kalimna vineyard at the northern end of the Barossa Valley. With demand increasing, it became essential to extend sourcing to regions outside the Barossa and so during the 1970s, Bin 28 became a multi-regional, warm-climate South Australian blend. Early vinification techniques originated from the  click for more details
